The New Tavor X95 XB16
The Tavor X95 XB16 is the most recent Bullpup technology offered by IWI US. These tactical shotguns online are available as 9mm conversion kits, .300 Blackout and 9mm, and are available in OD Green (XG16), FDE (XFD16), and Black.
When the original Tavor TAR-1 was first designed in the mid-1990s by the Israeli firearms manufacturer, they did in order to meet the weaponry needs for use in close quarter combat circumstances. Soldiers needed to have a weapon they could use while they were clearing and maneuvering buildings and houses within urban environments, but that was still as reliable (or more so) as the AK or AR platforms. The Tavor TAR-21 not only presented a shorter profile compared to the traditional ARs, but they also featured a modular and ambidextrous platform. Whether the shooters were right handed or left handed didn't really matter. It was possible to configure the Tavor to fit each individual shooter's exact needs. The Tavor platform today is one of the most common weapons systems used by current1 Elite Special Force Units.
After it was allowed for the Tavor to be available to civilians, they started to ship them to the U.S. with the SAR designation. Since that time, a following has evolved of bullpup shooters that turned the world upside down for the weekend warriors.
The bullpup designs have continued to evolve and the market has been hit with more design changes and advanced features that numerous shooters had been asking for, and obviously, IWI listened to them.
New Tavor X95 XB16 Features
- An M16-style Mag Release Button is featured on the X95 now rather than the old SAR switch that made it very time-consuming and difficult to make magazine changes.
- Shooters have the ability now to change their pistol grip out according to whatever their personal preferences are by just unscrewing the screw located on the bottom part of the pistol grip.
- The charging handle has been relocated so that it is closer to the center of mass of the shooter
- Enhanced rear receiver and bolt release with a lower profile
- Forearm tactical rail system for accommodating accessories like a flashlight
- Lighter weight trigger system (5 to 6 pounds)
Two of my favorite modifications on the new model is its forward rail design and Magazine Release Button. No longer are there any awkward feelings when attempting to nail the rear magazine switch while performing tactical reloads or during maneuvers while manipulating the firearm. After you got used to the old system you could get fairly good at it. However, with the new AR-style magazine button, it makes this a hundred times easier. The forward rail system also comes from the factory covered with standard plastic forehand guards that are perfect for a forward grip or mounting a flashlight to use for home defense.
Overall, I believe the Bullpup platform, with its Tavor X95 XB16, has developed into an outstanding platform, particularly for situations involving close quarter combat. If you haven't had the opportunity yet to try one, you should. It will open your mind up to a completely new shooting world.
